it's been a while. in any case i'm working towards building a body of work that will keep propelling me forward, whether it's through photography or sketches. i'm going to college and my orientation group is Digital Photography in Nature. oh, and i got into Hampshire! things are going well and i'm going to be more consistent with posting my pictures onto deviantart.

i need to take/upload more pictures and focus. i'm listening to a lot of pj harvey. i'm looking at a few colleges. will be applying early to hampshire. i've started reading hemingway and watched the first 20 minutes of that obscure object of desire.

...i still haven't gotten around to posting my deviations. apologies. i had to upload over 200 pictures onto my photoblog and then i went camping. true story.

i'm going to an art exhibit this afternoon with steven. i should be taking pictures. and out of 50 i hope to take, i shall pick a couple to post. and get around to posting them.

late last year i was accepted into the people to people student ambassador program. in mid july i left for the UK and Ireland and came back yesterday afternoon. for 20 days, i lived with, ate with, laughed with, shopped with, and wreaked havoc with 39 other teenagers. i took approxmiately 1200 pictures and i'm hoping at least 15 of them came out worthy enough for deviantart. out of the 832 i've gone through so far, i've cleared 6 to be posted. 2 more are on the cuff. who knows, i could change my mind at any time. granted, i took more than half of these pictures without artistic intent but i've found that most of the candid pictures i took came out better than expected. so. hurrah.

i've decided to get more serious about taking pictures. before high school, i had my heart set on taking photo, eventually progressing to AP photo by senior year. unfortunately, things didn't work out that way. i'm a junior now, and i've yet to take a photo course at school. my disappointment led to a slight inferiority complex, but since this past summer, i've been thinking more positively. i can do it on my own. on the other hand, i'll have to fight my laziness head on.

i love taking pictures in color but i've developed a love for sepia and b&w. so i might be posting more pictures in mostly sepia and b&w. i'll see how that goes.

also, i'm going to try to pay a bit more attention to light and shadows, especially when working with people. i want to invoke emotion, not just take pictures.
